Assessment of Ecosystem Classification Systems at Various Scales on Environmental Parameters Using Remote Sensing Techniques

چکیده
The main purpose of this study was to assess the effect of ecosystem classification systems at various scales on environmental parameters using remote sensing techniques. The processes included applying hybrid classification to generate a land-use map of northern Taiwan using Landsat-5 image in 1995; using the DTM and the SEBAL model to calculate 16 environmental parameters to compare the differences among various land-use types; and assessing the effects of 2 ecosystem classification (i.e., geographic climate method and watershed division method) on environmental parameters using stepwise discriminated analysis. The result indicated that the study area was classified into 7 land-use types (i.e., forest-land, building, farm-land, baring farm-land, water body, cloud, and shadow). Comparison of environmental parameters among different land-use types showed that forestland had higher value with cosine of solar incidence angle, twenty-four hour extraterrestrial radiation, net radiation, normalized difference vegetation index, emissivity, estimating friction velocity, surface roughness for momentum transport, sensible heat flux, soil heat flux, evapotranspiration, and had lower value with transmittance, air density, surface albedo, surface albedo at the top of atmosphere, aerodynamic resistance to heat transport, surface temperature. As for the assessment of ecosystem classification systems at various scales on environmental parameters, the result showed that ecosystem classification systems at various scales do cause the variation of environmental parameters according to the selected parameters and the number of parameters for discriminating land-use types. However, among environmental parameters, normalized difference vegetation index and emissivity are the most important factors regardless of ecosystem classification systems at various scales.

Land cover is defined as the physical material of the surface of the earth, including different vegetation covers, bare soil, water surface, various urban areas, etc. Land cover and its changes are very important and influential on the Earth and life of living organisms, especially human beings. Land cover change monitoring is important for protecting the ecosystem, forests, farmland, open spac...
متن کاملOptical remote-sensing techniques for the assessment of forest inventory and biophysical parameters
Forests are the most widely distributed ecosystem on the earth, affecting the lives of most humans daily, either as an economic good or an environmental regulator. As forests are a complex and widely distributed ecosystem, remote sensing provides a valuable means of monitoring them. Remote-sensing instruments allow for the collection of digital data through a range of scales in a synoptic and t...

The primary objective of the current study is to produce karstification potentiality maps in northeast of Khuzestan province, Iran, using both fuzzy logic and AHP models as an additional tool in hydrogeological research. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) are used to create two maps depicting the development of the karstification, consisting of five classes, showing th...
متن کاملInland wetlands mapping and vulnerability assessment using an integrated geographic information system and remote sensing techniques
The understanding of inland wetlands’ distribution and their level of vulnerability is important to enhance management and conservation efforts. The aim of the study was to map inland wetlands and assess their distribution pattern and vulnerability to natural and human disturbances such as climate change (temperature increase) and human activities by the year 2080. Inland wetland types i.e. for...

Human groups have considered the Behshahr plain of Mazandaran in the past Due to its particular geographical shape, location between the Caspian Sea and mountains, and the existence of some rivers in the region. However, our knowledge of this area is limited to several published surveys and archaeological investigation of its ancient sites. No detailed research has conducted on the formation of...
